An Occasion for the Community to Celebrate
There was quite a flurry of excitement recently at Cosgrove High School, with dignitaries from across local and state government, representatives from the Department for Education, Children and Young People, the school community, and many of those responsible for delivering the Cosgrove High School Revitalisation, coming together to celebrate its official opening.
While the School's redeveloped wing has now been in use for two terms, giving staff and students plenty of opportunity to take ownership of the new spaces and make them their own, the benefits are already becoming apparent. The school is seeing positive changes in student engagement, attendance and wellbeing, while educators, staff and the leadership team are experiencing greater opportunities for collaboration and increased versatility in the way teaching and learning can occur.
The ceremony celebrated not just a building, but a transformation in how students learn and belong. "The revitalisation project has been of great significance for our school community and is now an enabler for our ongoing pursuit of educational excellence," said Principal Anthony Coe. "What this building does is open the doors to new opportunities with curriculum and learning and ways of working that were previously not accessible to our students."
Students Leading the Way
The impact is already visible. Students have embraced the new spaces with genuine engagement. Jacob and Mason, the 2026 School Captains, speak to the shift:
"Having a new space to learn has had an incredible impact on the wellbeing of the grade 10 students. We now learn in a classroom that is warm, clean and spacious enough for us to learn comfortably. The students are more engaged with their learning, happier in their new environment and we feel like we have a space where we belong. Every student should have a learning space that they look forward to being in, and we are lucky enough to now have that. Because of this Revitalisation Project we have modern learning environments which helps us to foster connections, inspiration and belonging."
Collaboration Across Teams
The project represents genuine collaboration across many voices. Principal Coe acknowledged the architects, builders, project managers, and particularly the School Business Manager, whose coordination over five years was instrumental. "Projects of this magnitude need a dedicated team to get to the end point," he noted.
The new spaces and their seamless connections to a variety of outdoors spaces, have already become hubs of connection and learning. But more than the facilities, the students, the staff and the community feel invested in and that they belong.
"The community within which we work deserve the best," Principal Coe said, "and I believe this has been delivered."
