As the 50th NAIDOC Week comes to a wrap, we reflect on this year’s theme and the role of empowering youth through Country-led design.

This year's theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy, invites us to celebrate the resilience of First Nations culture, honour legacy and uplift the vision of young leaders shaping a self-determined future.
Our current collaboration with Cosgrove High School and the Department for Education, Children and Young People, along with Black Wattle Country and Inspiring Place gives form to this legacy - using the built environment as an education tool for our youth - a platform for learning through Country, language and cross-cultural exchange.
The revitalisation project represents a contemporary chapter on Country, drawing out a nodal connection between kunanyi (Mt Wellington and its foothills) and timtumili minanya (the River Derwent). The erosion form within the ochre-coloured façade symbolises the continuum of the River and its origins - a visual story of place and the power of knowledge passed between generations.
We hope you’ve been enjoying what’s on offer this week for NAIDOC Week. We are treated to some incredible stories that highlight the richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Dive into these inspiring narratives and embrace the essence of this year’s theme, shouting out to our youth.
We encourage you to visit SBS On Demand to explore and learn more about the world’s oldest living culture, amplify truth-telling, and witness how storytelling and knowledge exchange continue to inform contemporary creativity and innovation.
Let’s honour the contributions, resilience, creativity and innovations of First Nations peoples together.
