kunanyi / Mount Wellington Pinnacle Observation Shelter
kunanyi / Mount Wellington dominates Hobart from just about any angle or position but the supporting infrastructure for visitors on the pinnacle was lacking and needed a boot to reinvigorate the appearance and function of the Observation Shelter. In collaboration with the Hobart City Council, new interpretation signage was developed to enhance the visitor experience to Hobart’s most popular tourist attraction.
Creative concepts drew from rock formations found on the mountain. The signage forms are stylised graphic representations of the rocks. Individual text and image panels are a unique shape, thickness and randomly placed to reveal layers and depth underneath. This technique is reflective of the natural landscape seen from the space.
A transparent map covers the bottom edge of the window allowing the viewer (while seated) to line up the location artwork with the physical external landscape.
